Beaver Creek Nature Area
Located in Palisades State Park, the Beaver Creek Nature Area offers an excellent opportunity to spot a variety of birds and animals. 1.5 mi (2.4 km) of hiking trails wind over hills, through forest and across prairie. The annual Homesteader Day Harvest Festival attracts thousands of visitors to this park, featuring music, crafts and traditional farming demonstrations.

Dramatic cliffs line Split Rock Creek which flows through Palisades State Park, located near Garretson. Legend tells that Jesse James and his gang hid in a cave on Split Rock Creek after robbing a Minnesota bank. Located on the southern edge of the Coteau des Prairies plateau, the river is not the only impressive part of this park's geological landscape. Various hiking trails lead to historic sites and stunning views and canoeing is a popular activity on the river. A small seasonal campground and year round cabins are available in the park.
