Carnegie Library/Community Cultural Center Of typical Carnegie design, Brookings' Carnegie Library was designed by Grant C. Miller in 1914. The Tudor-style entrance and red tile roof lend the building a uniqueness. USS South Dakota Battleship Memorial This memorial is dedicated to the most decorated battleship of the US Navy in World War II, as well as the serivcemen who lost their lives in action. Open daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

The world's only corn palace, this historic site was originally erected in 1892 as a sign of South Dakota's healthy agricultural climate. The current building was completed in 1921, and has hosted the annual Corn Palace Festival ever since. Each year a new mural is created on the building's exterior, from thousands of bushels of corn, grain, wild oats, wheat and grasses. The palace is Mitchell's premier tourist attraction. The Mitchell Prehistoric Museum is dedicated to preserving one of the first settlements in this area dating back to the 10th Century. The area has remained relatively untouched and is rich with artifacts. The Archedome, located on site, is a research and technological center, which gives archeologists unlimited access to the park. There is also a museum and gift shop.

Centennial Village Centennial Village is a recreation of a late 1800s pioneer town, located at the Brown County Fairgrounds. Various historical businesses are displayed along the streets of this little town, which features many original historic buildings moved in from other sites. Originally a frontier army outpost, this 1864 fort site is a National Historic Landmark and features restored buildings, including officers' quarters, stone barracks and a guard house. Cramer Kenyon Heritage Home This Queen Anne home is the tallest of its kind in South Dakota. Built in 1882 by the Secretary of the Dakota Territory, the Cramer Kenyon Heritage Home features most of its original 1880s decor, including oil paintings by Alice Bullfinch Cramer. Built in 1885, Mellette House was originally home to South Dakota's first governor, Arthur Calvin Mellette, and his family. Visit this spectacular, restored Italianate-style home and in its many elegant rooms discover original furnishings and paintings, once owned by the Mellette family. Adams Homestead & Nature Preserve Doubling as both a nature and historical experience, this preserve spans 1,500 acres (607 ha) along the Missouri River and features more than 10 mi (16 km) of trails, native plants, a variety of birds and wildlife, and restored buildings that include the main homestead, a schoolhouse, church and log cabin. Dakota Territorial Capitol Replica Located in Riverside Park, the Capitol Replica is a reconstruction of the original Dakota Territorial Capitol that was built in Yankton in 1862. Inside the building, visitors will discover photographs and maps of old Yankton and the Dakota Territory, along with a gallery dedicated to former Dakota Territorial governors, and a stunning quilt highlighting Yankton's landmarks.
